A SYNOPSIS OF THE ORDER
The order, in its present form, was established in Lancashire, England in 1757 and received its authority by the British Parliament. In June 1877, branches were established in South Africa, followed by other branches in Barbados, British Honduras, (now Belize), Canada, Demerara, Dutch West Indies, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Spanish Honduras, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, to name a few countries.

On January 1910, the order was established in the United States of America and on September 19th, 1910 was Incorporated under the laws of the State of New York. The headquarters of the Order was transferred to New York in 1941, where it is presently maintained.
The Order, administratively is divided into three branches, namely: The Executive Committee of Grand Council, District Grand Lodge, and Chapters.

The Grand Council, (the supreme body) consisting of 29 District Grand Lodges worldwide, convenes every three years at a pre-determined location for its Triennial International Convention.. At this convention new laws and policies are enacted and new Executive Committee for the Grand Council is
elected to manager the affairs of the order.

The District Grand Lodges, with member units assemble every two years for their Biennial Convention. At this convention new laws and policies germane to their respective jurisdiction are enacted and presented to the Grand Council for its approval. New offices are elected also.
The other units (Lodges and Chapters) convoke at least once per month and elect their officers annually.
