TANYA DAWN ANDERSON-ROSE
August 31, 1971
– May 15, 2003

The inevitability of death was so painful for Reichland and Nancy. Those of us who know these two loving parents, are sharing the loss of the “flower of their eyes.” Tanya has been called home by her Ancestors and the global village has lost a warm, kind and caring child of the soil.
Tanya, for those of us who knew her, was a very bright and engaging young lady. This articulate and disarming young woman was able to take over a heated conversation between her father and his friends, by putting forth the most rational conclusions. This product of Holy Childhood Prep School and St. Andrews High School was very respectful to everyone, regardless of age, wealth or status in society. Perhaps that was her most lasting gift to those of us who knew her. Tanya was more than Nancy or Andy’s daughter. She was more than David’s wife. She was a committed egalitarian who believed that everyone must work towards equal rights and justice. This global viewpoint was shaped by her parents. Certainly her radicalization was also shaped by her collegiate experiences at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Kingston, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Economics and later her Master of Science in International Relations in the mid 1990’s.
Everywhere Tanya worked in Jamaica, she was greatly admired for her seriousness of purpose, her dedication to nation building and her willingness to go the extra mile so that there was teamwork and a tolerant working environment. She entered the world of work at National Commercial Bank. She was seriously pursuing a banking career with her “eyes on the prize” of becoming a top executive. She moved on to the Bureau of National Disaster Preparedness because there was this insatiable thirst to become a Public Servant. Her graduate studies in political science reinforced in her that family trait of service to the nation. This led her to the Manchester Parish Counsel where she was the Chief Administrative Officer. She moved on to the National Gaming and Betting Commission where she was its Public Relations Officer.
Tanya did not get the opportunities like most of her friends with her educational background due to the unexpected cancer virus, which in less than eighteen months took her home. In her last letter to her father, she told him that if it was the will of the God, she was going to accept his calling home and that she was prepared for her inevitable passage to meet him.
Tanya was a seasoned journalist who has paid her dues. She was there when her father and his partners started the Jamaica Record and the Enquirer, now the Jamaica Herald and the X-News respectively. The Caribbean Commentary has lost its Creative Consultant and its publisher has lost one of his genuine friends.
Rest in peace, Tanya.
