Diego¹s penalty kick tally gives Brazil 2:1 golden goal semifinal win over USA
             23.7.03 - Midfielder Diego¹s penalty kick goal 10 minutes into the first sudden death overtime period gave Brazil a 2:1 victory over the defending champions USA in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals on Wednesday evening at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.
    After an intense and scoreless first half, the USA opened the scoring 1:0 in the 62nd minute of the second stanza off a header by defender Carlos Bocanegra from a free kick taken by midfielder Claudio Reyna.
    The Samba Kings searched for the equalizer and almost achieved it in the 74th minute-mark when midfielder Julio Baptista¹s 14-yard right-side shot hit the post after it was deflected by USA goalkeeper Kasey Keller.
    Brazil finally broke the USA defense at the 90th minute mark after a Keller save caused a loose ball inside the penalty area and forward Kaká scored the tying goal 1:1 and forcing golden goal overtime.
    Brazil¹s goal was the first given up by the USA in Gold Cup play in 802 minutes, with the last goal against coming in the 2:1 victory over Korea Republic in the 2002 tournament opener on 19 January in Pasadena, California.
    In the overtime period, the Samba Kings game-winner came when USA defender Cory Gibbs was ejected after an intentional hand ball inside the penalty area.
    Diego took the 12-yard shot and scored the game-winner as Brazil reaches the Gold Cup final for the first time since 1996 and will meet the winner of tomorrow¹s other semifinal between Mexico and Costa Rica (21:00) at the 2003 Gold Cup Final set for the Estadio Azteca Sunday at 12:00.
    The USA will face the loser of the Mexico-Costa Rica encounter in the third-place game set for the Orange Bowl on Saturday at 20:00.
