ARDENNE ALUMNI OF FLORIDA TO HONOR FORMER PRINCIPAL

Dr. E.M. Claire Gayle, Former principal of Ardenne High School, will be hornored by the Florida Alumni Association at their upcoming dinner dance.

Ardenne Alumni Association of Florida will honor Dr. E. M. Claire Gayle, a former student who served as principal from 1969 to 1978 and holds the record for continuous length of service at the institution. The association will also honor one of its members, Dr. Olive Chung-James, for her outstanding community service in the field of medicine.

Both will be honored at the associations annual dinner dance scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 13, at the Bonnaventure Resort and Spa in Weston. Congressman Alcee Hastings will be the featured speaker and musical entertainment for dining and dancing will be provided by South Florida¹s top female DJ ³Janice De Empress².

Proceeds from the event will go towards the library expansion project which will be named the E. M. Claire Gayle Library in honor of the former headmistress. ³We are working diligently to make this event a success in every sense of the word,² stated Phillip Hudson, president of the association. ³We would like all Ardenne past students and friends of the school to support this fundraising venture as we strive to make a meaningful contribution to our alma mater.²

Tickets for the dinner dance are on sale at all Jah-Nets Restaurants in Miami-Dade and Broward counties and also from members of the alumni association. The doors will open at 8:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 9:00 p.m. There will also be a gate prize as well as several other surprises throughout the evening¹s proceedings.

Ardenne Alumni Association of South Florida has been a very vibrant organization making several valuable contributions to the school through their aggressive fundraising efforts. A few years ago the association was instrumental in purchasing a bus for the school to transport students on various field trips. Other notable donations include computers and other high tech equipment as well as books for the library.

Ardenne High School is a highly recognized secondary school in Kingston, Jamaica which was founded by Church of God missionaries led by Nellie Olson in 1927. Today the school boasts over 2,000 students and over 100 teachers. The school obtained international attention in 1998 when one of its students, Jody-Anne Maxwell won the Scripps-Howard Spelling Bee competition in Washington D.C.
