CYNTHIA BAKER-CAMPBELL
DIVERSIFIES INTO THE
COSMETICS INDUSTRY
Cynthia Baker-Campbell is regarded as the pioneering Caribbean entrepreneur in the Health Care Industry. She is head and shoulders over her competitors with more than four hundred employees. Unlike most Caribbean entrepreneurs who do not like to diversify or engage in joint partnerships, this is not the case with this Jamaican. She has taken advantage of the marketing expertise of Louis
Biasi, not only to expand her core business, but also to enter into a joint partnership in another lucrative enterprise.
Ms. Baker-Campbell met Mr. Biasi when he was looking for a top rated home care provider to look after his father. A rapport developed between both corporate executives. Ms. Baker-Campbell gave Mr. Biasi the job of marketing her home care business. During her daily contact with her employees, she recognized that these women were having problems finding the right make-up for their faces. It was difficult for them to find the right shades to match their colour. With her marketing consultant, they decided to identify a company, which had the appropriate cosmetics to meet this burgeoning Caribbean female market. They came in contact with Sacha Cosmetics, which has been around for more than two decades. However, it did not have an effective distributing system throughout North America and the Caribbean. It must be pointed out that this cosmetic company has the exclusive contract for the Miss Universe Pageants.
Baker-Campbell and Bashi have won the contract to sell and distribute Sacha products in North American and the Caribbean. They have developed a franchising scheme and this has become a potentially lucrative business, similar to Baker’s home care business.
